Platelet-rich Plasma

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a new approach to tissue regeneration and it is becoming more valuable in promoting the of healing dental and oral surgery procedures. The use of PRP in surgical settings can be quite beneficial, as it reduces bleeding, promotes bone regeneration, and enhance soft tissue healing. Clinical studies have suggested that promising results have been yielded from the application of PRP in many dental and oral procedures (i.e. implant surgery, periodontal surgery, tooth extractions). PRP has also been applied for the management of biphosphate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (BRONJ) – enhancing bone maturation and wound healing [1].

As PRP is free from potential risks for patients, it is not difficult to obtain or use; platelet-rich plasma can be a promising treatment method for many dental and oral procedures.
